Roseville at a glance

Roseville sits about 12 kilometres north-west of the city and is the southernmost suburb of Ku-ring-gai, with a narrow strip in Willoughby. Middle Harbour and Moores Creek form its eastern edge and Lane Cove National Park its western edge. The name comes from Rose Villa, a stone cottage that was pulled down to make way for the North Shore railway line.

Most homes are houses, with apartments making up a smaller share, and most are lived in by their owners. Couples with children are the largest household group, and the most common age group is 40 to 49.

Close to the station, the streets are lined with Federation and California bungalow homes, while the outer streets were built in the 1940s and 1950s in plainer styles. Eden Herschel Babbage, a grandson of Charles Babbage, did much to create Roseville Park and Roseville Chase, and the photographer Harold Cazneaux lived for most of his life in Dudley Avenue. Roseville Golf Club dates from 1923.

Roseville station is on the North Shore line, with a small group of shops beside it on the Pacific Highway and Hill Street. Roseville Public School and Roseville College are both in the suburb, and the parks include Roseville Park, Muston Park and pockets of bushland along Blue Gum Creek.

The trade-offs are worth saying plainly. Homes close to the Pacific Highway and the railway hear both. Many streets sit inside heritage conservation areas, which shapes what you can change later. And the new state planning rules allow taller apartment buildings near the station, with one large project on Lord Street already approved, so it pays to know what is planned around a home before you buy it.
