West Pymble at a glance
West Pymble sits about 15 kilometres north-west of the city in Ku-ring-gai Council and shares the postcode 2073 with Pymble. Lane Cove National Park surrounds much of it, which gives the suburb its bushwalks and its quiet.
It is a suburb of family houses, and a large majority are lived in by their owners. Couples with children are the largest household group, and the most common age group is 10 to 19.
Logging was the first industry here, with the biggest trees dragged down to the Lane Cove River. Bicentennial Park on Lofberg Road was once a quarry and was turned into playing fields, a pool and parkland in 1988. The shops are in Philip Mall on Kendall Street.
Pymble station is about two and a half kilometres away and awkward to reach on foot, so most people use the buses, including the loop service to Gordon station and routes to Macquarie University and Turramurra. West Pymble Public School, Gordon West Public School and Our Lady of Perpetual Succour are all in the suburb.
The trade-offs are worth saying plainly. Without a station, the car and the bus do most of the work. Homes backing onto the national park have the outlook, but also bushfire planning and building rules to check. Some streets fall steeply towards the creeks, which affects access and drainage.
