Milsons Point at a glance

Milsons Point sits at the northern end of the Harbour Bridge, directly across the water from Sydney Cove, about three kilometres north of the city in North Sydney Council. It is named after James Milson, a free settler who supplied ships with stone ballast, water and produce from his farm.

It is almost entirely apartments, and most homes are rented rather than lived in by their owners. Childless couples are the largest household group, and the most common age group is 30 to 39.

Few suburbs are as well connected. Milsons Point station sits on the northern approach to the Bridge, the ferry wharf west of the Bridge serves the Parramatta River and Pyrmont Bay routes, and buses run across the Lower North Shore.

Luna Park, opened in 1935 with its Art Deco fantasy architecture, and the North Sydney Olympic Pool are both here, and parks cover almost a third of the suburb's small area. Loreto Kirribilli and St Aloysius' College are close by.

The trade-offs are worth saying plainly. In a suburb of apartments, the building is the decision: strata records, levies, defects and what the owners' corporation has planned all need checking before you bid. Bridge traffic, the rail line and events at Luna Park shape some buildings far more than others.
